Canva Tutorial: How to Create Beautifully Curved Text

Canva Tutorial: How to Create Beautifully Curved Text //
During this tutorial I’ll show you exactly how to create beautifully curved text in Canva for all your creative designs!

Start off with a blank template; head over to Elements and select a circle. Copy the circle so that we end up with two. Alter the transparency so that you see the two circles very, very clearly. Re-size one of the circles so that it sits right in the centre of the bigger circle. Head over to the Text tab, click on it so that you bring up a text box in the centre and type out some text. Head over to the tab at the top to change the size if you want.

There’s no easy way around doing this so what you have to do is copy and paste individual letter; that sounds like a really laborious step but actually when you get used to it, it doesn’t take very long at all.

In a past tutorial I showed you how to lock elements so that they don’t move around accidentally so I’m just going to lock these circles by heading over to the top right hand corner and clicking the little ‘lock’ icon. I can now select the whole of my text and move it around but I can still select the individual letters and move them separately.

Now grab the curved arrows by each letter and one by one rotate them. This is why it’s so important to have two circles because I’m aligning each letter with the inner and outer circles so that you get the curve exactly right. So the bottom of the letters needs to sit right on the inner circle. It just takes a little bit of patience but, as I say, once you get used to doing this you can do it really quickly.

Don’t worry if the text isn’t exactly centred because there is a solution and I’ll show you how to do this now. So you’re going to select all the text and just move it. Change the curve and position it again. You might have to tweak the letters slightly just to make sure they sit on the circles again; it’s just a tiny tweak so make sure it looks good.

So now we’ve aligned all the letters we can delete the circles. Head over to the top right hand corner and unlock your circles so that you can actually delete them. I’m going to keep the inside circle because I’m going to change it and I’m going to make another copy.

Now that I’ve done the text I’m just going to play around with it just to show you what you can do. Let me know what you think of today’s Canva Creative tip. Thanks very much for watching and I will see you next week!

  1. Since creating this video I have spoken with the team at Canva about making curved text a feature. They know how important it is but the feedback is that this is incredibly difficult to do from a technical point of view, even with Adobe it's quite a long process. However, they have listened to the feedback you've given me and they will bear it in mind when they consider new features, which are happening all the time. Thank you!

  2. Super cute. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Nicky good video but I can't seem to grab an individual letter….where am I going wrong? Thanks

  4. This is fantastic!!!! Thank you!!

  5. Thanks for the efforts, This will take me a week to make hhhh

  6. Very helpful tutorial

  7. Giving some ideas are good, can't leave using CANVA, eagerly waiting the CURVED TEXT FEATURE IN CANVA.

  8. Exceptional tutorial! Thank you for your generosity.

  9. Awesome video! Sub earned!

  10. How can I just tilt the text? I've googled it and it says "Place your mouse cursor on the circular arrow and hold the left mouse button. While holding down the button, drag the text – you should see it begin to rotate in proportion to your movement." When I try that, it says "add a comment" instead of being able to tilt,

  11. For $12/month, there’s no reason this shouldn’t be an option.

  12. Brilliant work around. Thank you so much. Love your voice. ASMR maybe?:P

  13. Thanks so much!

  14. Pffff .. Ain't nobody got time for that! Great tutorial though, but I will try my luck somewhere else.

  15. That was great, thank you for your time

  16. Very clever. Thanks for the video. You have a lovely voice.

  17. So helpful, exactly what I needed. Thank you.

  18. the fact that Picmonkey has the curved text feature and Canva doesn't is silly

  19. How long has Canva been around? Painful, especially for paid up users 🙁

  20. Thank you so much..I was looking for curve text template in canva with no luck. Now I can use this method as a work around. Thanks again.

  21. Loved the idea…thank you for posting this

  22. Thanks so much! Been trying to figure this out forever! Just a tip on audio: back away from the mic a bit or maybe get a pop filter (can make your own with pantyhose and a coat hanger) it'll really help soften the Ps and prevent some distortion you're getting.

  23. Thank you for showing how to curve text. I thought it to be tedious when I thought of it, but watched your video and realized it is no other way to do it. ??I hope Canva considers these changes. It would be nice. Nevertheless, great video.

  24. Almost a year late and every other software on the planet has curved text. Grr. Thanks for sharing this work-around with us!!

  25. I may try this even though I'm super impatient. It seems as though most design software now doesn't have an automatic curve feature, though, anyway. Thank you for making this tutorial! Just a question.. in real time how long did this take you to complete?

  26. Thank you Nicky. One of the best tutorials I've seen in a long time.

  27. I would definitely pay for their monthly service if they had curved text.

  28. Thanks so much for sharing! Simple and brilliant!

  29. Is this a paid version?

  30. Hi Nicky, loving your content. I was just wondering if you have a tutorial on how to create a worksheet/book on canvas?

  31. This is excellent, thanks for sharing!

  32. Does anyone know an easier app that we can use to get this curved lettering easy ?

  33. Thank you so much for this !!!!!

  34. How do you copy the text and paste each letter?

  35. This was so helpful!!!!!

  36. Thank you for the tutorial. Canva needs to add this feature. Curved text can be a little challenging in other design programs as well. What's funny is that the old-school MS Publisher had preset curved (and other formations) text that made this process simple. What gives?

  37. This is brilliant! I totally agree that Canva needs to get it together, but in the meantime–this is awesome! Kudos to you for figuring this out 🙂

  38. Great video… but how laborious. Too bad Canva can't offer this. Word has it!

  39. Nice workaround. If this is something you do a lot and you haven't looked at PicMonkey, it might be worth taking a peek at. They have a curved text tool that does this in a snap and could save a lot of time. Not dissing Canva, just their lack of a curved text tool.

  40. thank you! which font are you using, please? thanks

  41. Thanks for sharing this tip! Really hoping that they make a curved text feature soon. But this will have to do for now!
